About Our Program
Tiverton Youth Soccer (TYS) offers a competitive travel program designed for players who are ready to challenge themselves, develop advanced skills, and compete against teams across Rhode Island.Our program is designed to build confidence, player development, team comradery and a love for the game.
Our Competitive Philosophy
We believe in developing well-rounded players while fostering competitive, high-quality team
experiences.
- Tryout evaluations measure tactical awareness, technical ability, physicality, and coach-ability /effort.
- Final team formation decisions are made by the TYS Competitive Committee, considering
tryout performance, coach input (when needed), roster needs, and player commitment level.
- Team placement is fluid from year to year — players may move between teams based on
development and performance to ensure appropriate competition levels.
Age Group & Formats
Season Overview
Practices: 2x per week ( typically weekday evenings)
Games: 7 or 8 league games per season - 4 home, 4 away
Tournaments: At least one tournament each year, including one sponsored annually by TYS
Season Length: Fall and Spring Seasons - Our seasons align with the Rhode Island Supa Liga calendar

Games - Home Fields: Town Farm / Away Fields: Various towns in RI

Tryouts
- Player tryouts are held annually and are mandatory for all players wishing to join a competitive team. The tryouts are run by third-party evaluators and are overseen by the Competitive Director. Evaluations include key performance areas such as:
- Tactical awareness, technical ability, physicality, coach-ability and effort.
- Our goal is to form the strongest teams for both the boys and girls divisions. Player placement is determined by the following factors:
- Age group eligibility, tryout performance, coach evaluations (when needed) and commitment.
- Teams are selected to ensure competitive balance within Rhode Island Super Liga divisions.
About Rhode Island Super Liga
TYS competitive teams participate in the Rhode Island Super Liga, which organizes divisions into four tiers for both boys and girls. The TYS Competitive Director helps place each team within the appropriate division based on the teams overall ability to be challenged.
- Anchor Division: For teams that have a high percentage of players that demonstrate a strong level of technical and tactical ability.
- Classic Gold Division: For teams that have a high percentage of players that demonstrate an above-average level of technical and tactical ability.
- Classic Blue Division: For teams that have a high percentage of players that demonstrate an average level of technical and tactical ability.
- Rhody Division: For teams that have a high percentage of inexperienced players that demonstrate a recreational level of technical and tactical ability.
